Home Office Digital, Data and Technology designs, builds and develops services for the rest of the department and for government. Every year our systems support up to 3 million visa applications, checks on 100 million border crossings, up to 8 million passport applications and deliver 140 million police checks on people, vehicles and property.
An apprentice information Communications Technician (ICT) supports an established team of Infrastructure Engineers to support and maintain infrastructure solutions and services. You will receive coaching, mentoring and direction from more senior team members. The role is a trainee position where you can broaden you technical understanding and skills and expect to start developing a specialisation.
You will be a hard-working and enthusiastic individual with a flexible and collaborative approach to work. You will be someone who can work well as part of a busy team but are equally comfortable working independently or with limited supervision. In these roles, you will be making a positive contribution to the overall success of your business area.
Responsibilities
The Home Office is an exciting and rewarding department to work for, if you are successful in securing a place on the ICT Apprenticeship you will:
- Work as part of a team to build, configure, administer and support infrastructure technologies and solutions such as: compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, cloud, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open-source packages and solutions.
- Resolve technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements.
- Respond to incident reports, ensuring relevant prioritisation and detail to allow for effective investigation.
- Monitor resolution activities and progress updates to users.
- Assist in investigating faults in systems, processes and services, and on the implementation of appropriate solutions and preventative measures.
- Work collaboratively to ensure that a set of IT products, suppliers and vendors come together to deliver an IT service.
- Update and maintain technical documentation.

Working Pattern
This role is available on a full-time basis. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 30 hours per week due to business requirements.
Training
We offer a tailored training package throughout the scheme, and you will be supported in your personal development.
Apprenticeship
This position includes completing a , which takes around 18 months. To apply, you must:
- Be 16 or older (no upper age limit)
- Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years before starting
- Not be in another apprenticeship or paid education
- Work at least 30 hours per week.
- Not already hold a similar qualification at Level 3 or higher

Travel
The roles will be located in Manchester with occasional travel to our Central London or regional hubs. This will be subject to the apprenticeship.
