What's involved with this role:

JOB TITLE: Senior Contracts Solicitor - Part-time
REF: NW Leicestershire 5271852
Pay rate: £50.00 to £65.00 per hour PAYE, dependent on experience
Working Arrangement: Mostly remote working, with attendance at meetings as required and collection of laptop on first day of contract.

The role:

On behalf of a local council, we are seeking an experienced Local Government Lawyer to advise on large projects and contracts (including construction contracts), preferably with experience of advising on governance too, for approximately 2 to 3 months.

This role is part-time, (with the number of hours dependent on rate, to be discussed at interview). You will need to attend the office on first day to collect equipment (non-negotiable). You will also need to attend to return equipment at end of assignment or else can return via an approved courier at own cost.

No evening working - hours must be provided during the working day.

Key Responsibilities:

To primarily work on commercial contracts and procurement contracts
To act as lead commercial lawyer on the Council’s corporate projects, offering commercially aware legal project management, identifying key areas of legal work and advising on timescales, providing governance advice on appropriate decision-making processes; and engaging and coordinating external legal advisors as required.
Supporting a team of legal advisors and providing advice on matters as appropriate
Produce and/or review reports for meetings of the Corporate Leadership Team and meetings of the council/committees and to brief relevant Chairman / Portfolio Holder



What the client is looking for:

Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive: Must hold a valid legal qualification to practice in England and Wales.
Expertise in Commercial Contracts, with in-depth knowledge of drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial and procurement contracts, including construction contracts.
Understanding of local government governance and decision-making processes, including legal frameworks and compliance requirements.
Local Government Legal Experience: Proven experience working as a solicitor or legal advisor in a local authority setting.
Experience advising on legal matters related to complex public sector projects and high-value contracts.
Experience preparing and reviewing reports for council meetings, and advising elected members and senior officers.
Strong written and verbal communication, capable of producing clear legal advice and reports, and presenting to senior stakeholders (e.g., Corporate Leadership Team, Council Committees).
