A leading engineering company is seeking a construction legal professional to join a small, dynamic legal team. This is a permanent role (with the possibility of a temporary-to-permanent arrangement), starting in November.
The company specialises in integrated infrastructure engineering services and is currently undergoing significant M&A activity. As part of its strategic expansion, it is moving into sectors such as sustainable green energy infrastructure and other areas within the renewables and broader energy space. With a forward-looking approach to the industry's challenges and exceptional business growth, they are now looking to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel. The company is backed by a very reputable private equity house with a portfolio of around 40 companies.
You will report directly to the General Counsel, who is passionate about the development and progression of this position, and the individual within it. This newly created, generalist role will be based in the City. The company's acquisition-driven growth trajectory creates an exciting opportunity to be involved in a range of projects. The focus will be commercial, with significant involvement in non-contentious construction matters, alongside broader generalist legal responsibilities.
Key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating engineering and construction contracts
- Coordinating with external legal counsel
- Managing collateral warranties
- Supporting project delivery and meeting deadlines
- Liaising with internal and senior stakeholders
- Assisting the General Counsel in executing legal policies and strategies
- Overseeing the work of a paralegal
- Providing support on corporate and general commercial matters
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a capable and driven lawyer to play a pivotal role, within a particularly active and transformative period for the business. The environment is fast-paced, and you will work closely with a supportive and forward-thinking General Counsel and must be confident operating autonomously, whilst being an integral member of a close-knit legal team.
Ideally, you will have at least 5+ years' PQE (though strong candidates with less experience or more senior backgrounds will also be considered). You should have demonstrable experience in non-contentious construction and be articulate, impactful, and capable of thinking innovatively. This is ideal for a high-performing legal professional currently in the construction or engineering sectors, seeking a more generalist, hands-on position.
In addition to a competitive and flexible basic salary (depending on experience), the role offers hybrid working, 2-3 days in the office each week. The role will also come with a development plan from day one.
