The UK Space Agency (UKSA) is an executive agency of the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) and provides technical advice on the government’s space strategy, supporting the UK space sector to deliver the government’s vision.
Space is a part of everyday life. Satellites underpin our national economy, from agriculture and banking to aviation and shipping, and support our national security. Space science provides critical data to understand and address global challenges such as climate change, while missions to explore our solar system unite nations and advance humanity’s horizons.
We support a thriving space sector in the UK, which generates an annual income of £18.9 billion and employs 52,028 people across the country.
Through our portfolio of programmes and projects, we encourage the development of national space capabilities and are an early-stage investor in space research and development. We also promote the UK space sector’s interests and achievements; make connections to join up industry and academia; and represent the UK in international space programmes.
We have a powerful global voice, partnering with institutions across the world, including the European Space Agency.

The Telecoms Team sits within the UK Space Agency’s Investment Directorate and is responsible for delivering government investment into some of the most cutting-edge communications technologies in the world — from commercial satellite communications (with a focus on Low Earth Orbit, or LEO), to emerging opportunities in lunar and quantum connectivity.
We are looking for an enthusiastic coordinator to support the UK’s cross-Government Satellite Communications Capability agenda — working with government, commercial industry, and international partners to drive and shape future capability requirements, ensuring the UK remains at the forefront of innovation in this strategically critical area.
This role will play a key part in helping to identify and articulate whole-of-government needs for satellite communications services, supporting the application of those requirements into strategic investment and innovation activity, and developing a shared strategy for the UK’s future satcom capability.
The postholder will lead the cross-government coordination of UK Government requirements for satellite communications capability, including in commercial civil use, defence, national security, emergency response, and civil resilience contexts.
They will:
- Build effective working relationships across departments, capturing current and emerging requirements.
- Identify opportunities to showcase innovative UK commercial and academic capabilities to government users, helping to influence and shape future demand within Government and public authorities.
- Translate technical developments into clear narratives for senior government stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making and coherent investment planning.
- Track and support UK participation in international partnerships and initiatives, particularly where they relate to collaborative satcom development or strategic supply chain growth.
- Support the delivery of the operational strategy for satellite communications capability, working across policy, commercial, and technical teams.
- Monitor developments in the global satcom landscape and contribute insights to UK strategic planning, international engagement, and investment decisions.
- Work with programme delivery colleagues to ensure government requirements are reflected in UK Space Agency investments and industry support.
- Support reporting, governance, and benefits tracking relating to cross-government capability activity.
