Job Description

Within an IT environment, to train and participate in “system life cycle duties” by providing technical support in the ICT infrastructure environment across our corporate estate and the ICT Service Desk; and to support current and evolving digital transformation initiatives within East Ayrshire Council while undertaking the Digital Technology: Infrastructure SCQF Level 6 qualification.

The level of participation will expand as the post holder's relevant experience and/or qualifications increase; and in order to assist with the promotion, delivery and integration of the key objectives in relation to those identified within the Finance and ICT Service Plan and the Community Plan.

The Individual

To apply for this post you must be a resident of East Ayrshire and aged between 16-24 or up to age 29 if you have a disability or are care experienced.

The rate of pay for this post is £10 per hour for 16-20 year olds, £12.21 per hour for 21-24 year olds and £12.60 for 25+ year olds.

As part of this Modern Apprentice programme, the successful candidates will participate and complete the following:

Education Attainment

Year 1 - SCQF Level 6 in Digital Technology (Infrastructure); this programme will be facilitated by a 3rd party training partner of the Council.

Year 2-4 - HNC or HND in Computing (Computer Science); this course will be undertaken on a day release basis at Ayrshire College. Course costs/travel expenses will be met by the Council.

Work Experience

Year 1-2 - Generic introduction to ICT & digital, including the ICT Service Desk, across both Infrastructure & Digital and Applications & Business

Year 3-4 - Depending on progress in years 1 and 2, the postholder will 'specialise' in one or two areas of Infrastructure & Digital

Salary

Year 1 – salary will be as per the Council’s modern apprentice programme

Year 2-4 – Scottish National Living wage (dependant on attendance at FE College)
