The MCA’s Regulatory, Compliance and Investigations team (RCIT), work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective enforcement of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 and other maritime legislation, including undertaking proactive compliance activities and investigating and prosecuting offenders where appropriate.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Head, RCIT your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

Manage and conduct a range of serious and complex investigations into alleged breaches of Merchant Shipping legislation and relevant UKWork together and liaise with external partners conducting investigationsGather, verify, and assess all appropriate and available information to gain an accurate understanding of situations to an agreed case investigation planDevelop and evaluate strategies to manage investigationsPrepare, complete, and submit accurate case papers and evidential files to the highest professional standard and within set time limitsHandle and document exhibits as evidence custodian, ensuring items are securely stored and loggedAdditional Information
- Travel on official duty to all parts of the UK or in the rest of the world, sometimes at short notice
- On occasions, there will be a requirement to work outside normal conditioned hours
- Participation in the on-call duty Enforcement Officer Rota
- Attendance at mandatory department meetings in and around the UK
