Pay rate: £14.36 to £15.58 per hour PAYE
The role:
Join a dedicated Legal Team and play a key role in delivering a high-quality legal service to the Council, its Members, and Officers.
From Planning and Procurement to Contracts, Enforcement and Housing matters, you’ll be at the heart of a diverse and rewarding caseload by providing professional, accurate and high-quality support to the Legal Team.
Key responsibilities:
Assist in preparing routine court applications, legal notices, pleadings, defences, witness statements and correspondence under the Head of Legal's supervision
Maintain and update legal files and databases in line with compliance standards
Produce and send invoices and legal documents accurately and on time
Extract and collate data for performance reporting and case analysis
Conduct legal research to support the team as needed
Support the Head of Legal Services with data protection compliance, including managing internal data protection activities, assisting in training colleagues and conducting internal information governance checks
Assist the Head of Legal with governance matters, including complaints and Freedom of Information requests
Ensure all work helps safeguard the organisation from reputational and financial risks.
Provide legal advice to Council divisions and Councillors as required
What the client is looking for:
A Law degree qualification and a good standard of English and Maths
Experience of Housing, planning law, data protection and Freedom of information
Experience in dealing with Court proceedings and the ability to meet deadlines
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including drafting formal documents
Excellent customer service skills including experience dealing with members of the public and complaints
Ability to provide innovative solutions to problems
Ability to work on sensitive matters, to deadlines, at times with minimal supervision
Full UK valid driving licence
Able to work unusual hours, including evening attendance at meetings
Proficient IT skills including MS Office applications
