Location: Forest Gate (In-person with some blended delivery)
Job Type: Part-Time or Full-Time
Pay: £15.00 – £20.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Expected Hours: 10–30 per week

Tutorbase is a growing and dynamic tuition centre offering high-quality learning support for children and adults across Maths, English, and Science. We specialise in supporting learners from Year 1 to Year 13 and adult learners progressing into employment, further education, or vocational qualifications.

We’re on the lookout for a passionate and motivated Functional Skills Tutor to help adult learners build confidence and key skills in English and Maths – both in life and in the workplace.

What You’ll Do
As a Functional Skills Tutor at Tutorbase, you will deliver English and Maths at Level 1 and 2 to adult learners, including those completing qualifications in Health and Social Care and other vocational pathways. You'll create personalised learning plans and support learners both in-person and via blended learning.

You will play a key role in guiding learners toward success in their Functional Skills qualifications, with a strong focus on confidence-building, progress tracking, and embedding core employability skills.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality Functional Skills training in English and Maths (Level 1 & 2)

Create engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lesson plans tailored to learner needs

Use diagnostic assessments to set SMART targets and develop individual learning plans (ILPs)

Administer and support mock and live assessments

Track learner progress, complete reports, and maintain up-to-date learner records

Work closely with other Tutorbase staff to support overall learner achievement

Embed safeguarding, British Values, Prevent Duty, and equality into all learning

Maintain compliance with awarding bodies, OFSTED and internal quality standards

Build positive working relationships with learners, employers, and partners

Who You Are
Required
A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed, or PGCE)

Level 2 or higher in Functional Skills or GCSEs (Grade C/4+) in English and Maths

Experience delivering Functional Skills in an education or training environment

A learner-focused, adaptable approach to teaching

Excellent communication and classroom management skills

Knowledge of Safeguarding, Prevent, and working with diverse adult learners

Confident using IT and e-learning platforms

Desirable
Experience supporting adult learners within vocational programmes (e.g. Health & Social Care)

Experience using e-portfolio systems

Previous experience working with Job Centre Plus or other learner referral partners
