Sous Chef – 37.5 Hours | Care Home

Hourly Rate: £15
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (permanent, full-time)

Our client, a welcoming and care home, is looking for a Sous Chef with a passion for creating nutritious, comforting meals for older adults. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your culinary skills in a meaningful way — supporting residents' health, dignity, and enjoyment through carefully prepared food.

Working in a specialist healthcare setting, the Sous Chef will support the Head Chef in delivering high-quality meals tailored to individual dietary needs, including modified textures and specialist diets. If you’re experienced in catering within a care home, hospital, or similar environment and enjoy working in a warm, respectful kitchen culture, this could be the role for you.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working as a Sous Chef or Senior Cook in a care home, healthcare setting, or similar (essential)
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene regulations and dietary requirements in older adult care
  • Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene qualification (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of allergens, texture-modified meals, and cultural food preferences
  • Team-oriented, reliable, and passionate about food that makes a difference

Why Join This Service?

  • Paid breaks
  • Enhanced annual leave
  • Blue Light Card – Discounts & perks
  • Paid induction and training

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in preparing fresh, balanced meals in line with resident preferences and dietary requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of allergens, modified food textures, and specialist diets (e.g., diabetic, low-salt, soft diets)
  • Ensure high standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness in line with regulatory guidelines
  • Supervise and support kitchen staff, helping to maintain a positive team environment
  • Work closely with care teams to adapt menus to residents’ changing needs
  • Assist with stock control, ordering, and kitchen organisation
