Residential Support ManagerSalary: Up to £44,307 per annum (dependant on qualifications and experience) Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours per week / 52 weeks per year)Location: Sparsholt CampusClosing date: 17th July 2025
Overall Aim The purpose of this role is to create a safe, secure, inclusive and supportive environment for our residential students. Under the direction of the Director of Student Experience the post holder will be responsible for leading, managing and championing the provision for residential students at our Sparsholt Campus.
Key Responsibilities:Leadership and Management • Contribute proactively to the overall dynamic leadership and management of the SCG. • Support the development and implementation of effective service delivery standards and continual quality improvement processes for the activities under the control of the post holder, setting clear and measurable performance standards, targets and objectives. • Manage the self-assessment review and subsequent development planning for the area. • Ensure regular performance management, effective continuous professional development and training of all staff within the designated area of control and, where appropriate, participate in and deliver staff development and training activities. • Provide clear, accurate and timely reports to the Strategic Leadership Team, Board of Governors, and Advisory Boards, other SCG managers, staff, partner agencies and external bodies as required. • Collaborate with cross-SCG leadership and management teams to ensure highly effective communication and promotion of successful team working, so that staff are fully aware of and focused on achieving SCG objectives.
Managing Residential Support Provision • Effectively lead the residential support team in providing care and a comprehensive and diverse enrichment programme to the residential student population of Sparsholt campus • Manage, co-ordinate and participate in the residential support team (wardening) duties including weeknights and weekend wardening as required. • Collaborate with the Assistant Principal Student Experience in the ongoing monitoring of SCG-wide processes for identifying, appropriately supporting and monitoring the progress of students who are a ‘cause for concern.’ • Liaise regularly with students to gain their views on the residential provision and services available to them. • Provide necessary support to daytime supervision of student ‘public’ areas e.g. bus waiting area in the evening. • Discharge Health and Safety duties with regard to the accommodation to include fire safety checks to comply with the SCG policy and procedures. • Ensure accommodation is ready for students when they arrive at the start of the year. • Manage the behaviour of resident students in accordance with SCG policy. • Assist in the provision of information, advice and support to students before arrival through until they leave. • Work closely with the SCG nurse and head of wellbeing to conduct Cause for Concern meetings and work with students and parents/carers on keeping learners safe at SCG. • Work closely with wellbeing team and learning support team to ensure that students are well informed of a comprehensive range of services, support and opportunities. • Contribute to the SCG achieving ‘outstanding’ levels of student retention and achievement, by collaborating with colleagues in associated student support teams, to effectively undertake agreed processes for identifying, appropriately supporting and monitoring the progress of students who are a ‘cause for concern.’ • Liaise and work closely with the student body, including the Student Government, Learner Representatives and the Residents’ Council ensuring that students have adequate and effective opportunities to express their views about residential and cross-SCG issues in a transparent way.
Finance and Resources • Manage the preparation and ensure achievement of financial plans and budgets. • Ensure the effective and efficient deployment of physical and human resources through regular monitoring and review. • Ensure effective and efficient use of resources and equipment and contractual compliance for the areas under the control of the post holder. • Take responsibility for the development of risk management strategies and disaster recovery plans in connection with the area of responsibility.
Communication • At all times model professional behaviour and attitudes to maintain effective communication with students, guardians, stakeholders and colleagues. • Be pro-active in communicating with the team and in supporting communication amongst team members and between the Residential Support Team and the wider college community • Use College systems to support communications with the team and other stakeholders • Be proactive and positive in internal liaison with a wide range of academic, pastoral, wellbeing and premises colleagues and in external liaison with relevant outside bodies where necessary.
Behaviour and Conduct • Support colleagues to manage and monitor student behaviour around campus • Liaise with academic teams to report conduct concerns. • Liaising with Wellbeing or wider support teams to address student concerns. • Manage student behaviour and de-escalate challenging situations
Health and Safety, and Environment To ensure the College Group’s Health and Safety Policy and associated Codes of Practice are always adhered to and its requirements are met in full. • To complete and adhere to risk assessments related to residential activities
Additional Information • The post holder will be required to live in a house at the SCG main campus for the better performance of his/her duties, to ensure that the post holder is on hand to respond to residential learner needs. The post holder will ordinarily be required to regard the house at SCG as their main residence and will be expected to live in the property at all times (except during periods of holiday or other approved weekend and/or other short breaks) irrespective of whether they are on a programmed period of residential support duty or otherwise. • To undertake any training and continuing professional development necessary to ensure skills and knowledge are fully up to date • To keep abreast of and contribute to developments both internally and across the sector. • To attend and support College open days and events as requested. • To maintain contact and develop effective working relationships with relevant college teams • To undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time • To review this Job Description at least annually through the relevant College performance management scheme
