Data Protection Practitioner
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Protection Practitioner to join our Information Governance & Access Unit on a 3-month temporary contract. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in data protection within a County Council setting, particularly in managing complex Subject Access Requests (SARs) involving social care, adult social care, and special educational needs (SEN) records.
- Location: Stevenage (Remote working with occasional travel)
- Contract Type: Temporary (Full-Time)
- Contract Length: 01 August 2025- 30 November 2025
- Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 09:00-17:00)
- Pay Rate: £19.20 per hour
- DBS Requirement: Yes - Standard Level
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and respond to complex SARs in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Review, redact, and prepare sensitive records for disclosure, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Collaborate with internal departments to gather and verify relevant information.
- Provide expert advice on data protection matters, especially in relation to social care and education records.
- Maintain accurate records of SAR processing and ensure timely responses.
- Support the Information Governance team with other data protection tasks as required.
Essential Criteria:
- Demonstrable experience working within a County Council or similar local authority.
- Strong understanding of data protection legislation and its application in public sector settings.
- Proven ability to manage and respond to complex SARs.
- Familiarity with handling social care, adult social care, and SEN records.
- Excellent attention to detail and redaction skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- A Standard DBS check is required.
Desirable:
- Relevant data protection qualifications (e.g., CIPP/E, BCS Data Protection Practitioner Certificate).
- Experience with local authority case management systems.
