To work within the newly developed Physical health clinic within the Adult Community Eating Disorder service, Citywide Division, under the supervision and management of the Band 6 qualified nurses and accountable to The Operational manager.
This is a new and exciting role and an opportunity to provide specialist physical healthcare support and medical monitoring, including phlebotomy and ECGs as well as physical observations to those suffering with an eating disorder, in particular those suffering with Anorexia nervosa and high risk factors and medical complications associated with an Eating disorder illness.
The physical health team will be made up of x2 band 6 physical health nurses, x2 band 4 health care assistants and x2 GP with special interest. There will a consultant psychiatrist overseeing and providing support to the service also.
The aim is to role out the new medical monitoring pathway initially across Salford, Wigan and Bury initially, therefore you may be expected to work across different sites on particular days as the EDS is commissioned to provide care Citywide. There may be an expectation in the future to work in other parts of Greater Manchester. Where this would require a significant increase in travel time from home, compared to travelling to our base in Salford, time to travel during working hours and travel expenses can be provided.
Under the supervision and working in partnership with a registered nurse provide and deliver a high standard of nursing care contributing to the ongoing assessment, providing and monitoring care based on evidence and working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team. Provide compassionate, safe and effective care and support to patients in a range of care settings. Including travel across the GM footprint in various clinic locations maintaining professional standards at all times. Monitor the condition and health needs of patients within their care on a continual basis in partnership with patients, families and carers, ensuring appropriate escalation to a registered nurse/ medic when required.
To safely undertake the following procedures to meet the patient’s monitoring needs to include; undertaking routine procedures including venepuncture, ECG recording, height and weight recording, measuring and interpreting blood glucose levels, recording and interpreting vital signs, wound care, nutrition, hydration,temperature, pulse and BP monitoring, skin integrity, mood identification and be able to Identify and report changes in a patient’s condition to a registered nurse. Support the maintenance and replacement of any equipment needed in the service. Prioritise and manage own workload, recognizing where elements of care can safely be delegated to other colleagues, carers and family members. ·

To safely undertake the following procedures to meet the patient’s monitoring needs to include; undertaking routine procedures including venepuncture, ECG recording, height and weight recording, measuring and interpreting blood glucose levels, recording and interpreting vital signs, wound care, nutrition, hydration,temperature, pulse and BP monitoring, skin integrity, mood identification and be able to Identify and report changes in a patient’s condition to a registered nurse. Support the maintenance and replacement of any equipment needed in the service. Prioritise and manage own workload, recognizing where elements of care can safely be delegated to other colleagues, carers and family members. · Provide and receive sensitive information concerning a patient’s medical condition. ·Work with the registered nurse and engage with other agencies and community teams to ensure a safe, individualized approach to the admission and discharge of patients on the medical monitoring pathway. Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records in line with Trust policy . Provide effective evidence based care for service users under the supervision of registered nurses in order to perform non-complex activities, in line with clinical governance and professional standards.
