This role, based at Bedford Hospital, is an exciting opportunity to specialise in gastroenterology and nutrition support within the community. The post holder will provide specialist dietetic input for patients within North and Mid Bedfordshire and will cover specialist gastroenterology clinics, home enteral feeding, community clinics and home visits. The post holder will also provide support for less experienced dietitians and non-qualified staff, within the community team. This is a specialist role and requires excellent time management skills.
The community team have full access to remote working, with all patient notes on SystemOne. You will receive a laptop and mobile phone to support this.
The post holder will also form strong links with the hospital gastroenterology dietetic team, who will provide clinical supervision and support in the area of gastroenterology. The community team work closely together with regular meetings, CPD sessions and networking opportunities with the wider dietetic team.
The community dietetic team are based at Bedford Hospital, enabling us to liaise with the acute dietitians and other specialist dietetic teams, providing seamless patient care.
Other specialist dietetic teams include gastroenterology, oncology, obesity, diabetes and paediatrics. Ad hoc support and clinical supervision is always available across the teams. We take your professional development and areas of interest seriously, encouraging both internal and external CPD, including a structured feedback programme within the department. We enjoy training and assessing student dietitians from the University of Hertfordshire. Audit and service improvement are key to meeting the rising demands on our services. The department has good access to IT support and operates a flexi time system.

1. To manage a complex caseload of gastroenterology patients who require home enteral nutrition. Including providing advice on tube care, administration of feeds and ordering and to co-ordinate service improvement projects in conjunction with the clinical lead in this area.
2. To manage a complex caseload of patients in their own homes and in outpatient clinics who require specialist nutrition support and to co-ordinate service improvement projects in conjunction with the clinical lead in this area.
3. To manage a complex caseload of gastroenterology outpatients, working in close liaison with the gastroenterology dietetics team and to co-ordinate service improvement projects in conjunction with the clinical lead in this area.
4. To manage a caseload of patients with coeliac disease residing in care homes provide specialist dietetic support to a small number of care home patients and to co-ordinate service improvement projects in conjunction with the clinical lead in this area. This will include facilitating annual reviews and delivering training to the care home staff.
5. To have a very good understanding of and contribute to the effective running of the community dietetics service.
