We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person with excellent planning, communication and data handling skills who is passionate about managing Water Resources within Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire (GMMC). Working closely with both National and Area colleagues, you’ll help provide direction, lead on technical water resources issues, support the delivery and management of projects and work including water resource management plans, investment programmes and drought plans. You will also support in the management of risks and help make the most of opportunities for the environment.
Work will include but is not limited to the following:
• Supporting other teams and team members on complex Water Resources technical issues;
• Working with water companies (including United Utilities and Severn Trent), consultants and abstractor sector;
• Leading on technical water resources tasks including permitting, dry weather incident management and strategic planning activities;
• Using data and innovative ways of presenting it to help steer delivery;
• Building and maintaining relationships with others to help achieve the best outcomes.
The team
The Integrated Environment Planning team (IEP) is a centre of expertise for environment planning and decision making. We bring together a wide range of evidence to support the identification of environmental opportunities and to prioritise the delivery of functional environmental outcomes.
We are a friendly and diverse team divided into three workstreams - Water Resources, Water Quality and Catchment Planning. We work with other teams across GMMC and with external partners to facilitate integrated action.
Experience/skills required
You will have proven ability / expert knowledge that incorporates at least some of the following:
· An environmental degree and/or experience in water resources work;
· Strong communication, influencing and networking skills;
· Good organisational skills and ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work;
· Experience of translating guidance and instructions into local delivery;
· Experience of using evidence to explore problems and propose effective and innovative solutions;
· Ability to bring people together and inspire collaboration and information sharing;
· Ability to demonstrate how you take decisions and solve problems;
· Ability to coach and mentor others to improve resilience within the environment planning community.
