The Role

Would you like to work in a friendly, but busy team helping vulnerable and disabled people? If so, please read on.

An opportunity has arisen with the Housing Adaptations Team in Adult Services. We are seeking someone with drive and commitment to help deliver adaptations and provide a range of support services to people within the borough. Could this be you?

With a Disabled Facilities Grant allocation over £3.5M for this financial year, we are looking for candidates who are customer focused and able to achieve excellent results under pressure. The team is very busy and there is a constant flow of work, however you should find the work very rewarding in the knowledge that you are helping the most vulnerable in the borough.

Your role will be to act as the bridge between the service user and the adaptations service helping them with the application process to help alleviate some of the pressure on the surveyors. You will be dealing with general enquiries as work progresses and helping to resolve issues before they become complaints. You will also be a point of contact to provide information on, and signpost to, other services offered by the council, such as benefits or community-based projects that may be available in the service user’s locality.

About You

You need to be self-motivated, a team player, prepared to work under your own initiative and to act compassionately in a service area that deals with vulnerable clients.

If you have experience working in an adaptation environment, that’s great but it isn’t essential. We will train you as you work.

The post will be hybrid working with the opportunity to split your working week between office and home. Due to the nature of the work, visiting people at their home, you will need a driving licence and transport to get you around the borough.

If you feel this is the perfect opportunity for you and you have the skills we are looking for and are committed to delivering work to a high quality, then please contact the Housing Adaptations Service Manager: Jim Davies on 0161 342 3308 or email jim.davies@tameside.gov.uk.

About Us

Message from Stephanie Butterworth, Director of Adults Services at Tameside Council.

‘‘Our vision is one which sees people living well in the place they call home, where they are supported to be a part of their local communities to live long, healthy and fulfilled lives.

‘’One way I regularly connect and listen to our workforce is through my monthly staff drop-in with our Principal Social Worker. This is an opportunity to create dedicated time for staff to share ideas, team updates and network across our services. It’s amazing to hear during sessions that they really value being part of Team Tameside and the opportunities that we bring, so we can make sure that they are part of delivering our ambition for the people we support.
