Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Technical Instructor to join the Children’s Occupational Therapy Team working with children across Northumberland. The post holder will have the opportunity to experience working with children with developmental co-ordination disorders and physical disabilities. Experience of working in these areas is desirable but not essential. The role will involve working with families, carers, health and social care services, schools and nurseries in a variety of community settings. We cover a wide geographical area, therefore, you will need to meet transport requirements for the post.

We can offer you a chance to work in a well-established occupational therapy service sharing knowledge and resources. You will be helping the occupational therapists in the team with their assessments and interventions by working with people and their support networks to achieve individualised goals. We want you to feel able to use your personal communication skills and ideas within our service.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.

Under the direction and supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist (OT) the post holder will be expected to:
• Be responsible for the delivery of occupational therapy base line assessments and interventions to a delegated caseload of children on a group or individual basis, and in a variety of settings.
• With regular support from supervising therapist plan, implement and modify treatment programmes under defined parameters.
• Co-facilitate training sessions and develop appropriate resources
• Provide appropriate information, support and advice to children and their parents/carers with support, supervision and direction from qualified therapists.
• Carry out general administration tasks both electronically and on paper.
