Your Role

Stockport has been recognised nationally as a great place to live and work and has been recognised as ‘Council of the Year’ by the MJ Awards. As a Team Manager for the Highways Design & Construction Team, you’ll play an important part in our ambition to develop transport infrastructure that is green, inclusive, resilient, and safe and helps to reduce air pollution and lower our overall carbon emissions. Stockport already boasts some of the best connectivity in Greater Manchester, with regular train links into both Manchester and London, as well as a fast-growing network of walking, wheeling, and cycling routes and state-of-the-art transport interchange. Our ambitious investment programme aims to make it easier and greener for people to travel around Stockport, connecting people with access to good job opportunities and all the sport, culture and leisure facilities the borough has to offer.

Working alongside experienced professionals as part of multi-disciplinary project teams you will be managing the successful development and delivery of schemes throughout the whole project lifecycle from concept all the way through to hand over into operations and maintenance. You will play a key role in delivering, safe, efficient and deliverable designs for our capital programme, whilst contributing to staff development and the continuous improvement of our processes.

About You

We’re looking for a motivated and experienced professional with a strong background in delivering highways projects within the public sector. You’ll have a proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to meet challenging deadlines, designing, procuring, and managing complex highways schemes from inception to delivery.

You’ll bring hands on experience in leading multiple teams with competing priorities, balancing tactical and strategic resourcing needs. Your ability to work with the supply chain will be key to ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes. A solid understanding of asset management principles and how they inform long-term planning, investment decisions, and lifecycle management of infrastructure will be essential.

Experience in active travel initiatives and a thoughtful approach to how infrastructure supports placemaking will be a distinct advantage.

About Us

The role is in our Capital Delivery Service, within Strategic Infrastructure. You will work alongside teams who project manage our capital projects as well as maintain the infrastructure.

You will be joining a committed, supportive and diverse team of staff, consultants and partner organisations. We are proud of what we achieve together, delivering sustainable infrastructure schemes which will shape the future of transport in Stockport. There will be opportunities to develop your own skills and career as you play a key role in delivering a variety of projects alongside experienced professionals from across the service.
