Construction Teacher - Alternative Provision (Macclesfield)

Location: Cheshire
Start Date: ASAP or September 2025
Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary (Long-Term)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Your New Job

Hays Education is recruiting for a passionate and skilled Construction Teacher to join a dynamic and supportive alternative provision school in Macclesfield. This is a full-time, long-term temporary role, starting as soon as possible or from September 2025. You will be responsible for delivering engaging, practical construction lessons to students aged 13-16 who require a more personalised and supportive educational environment.

Your New Company

This alternative provision school is a small, specialist setting that supports young people who have struggled to thrive in mainstream education. Many students have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and the school adopts a trauma-informed, relational approach to teaching and learning. The school is known for its:

  • Strong pastoral support and commitment to student wellbeing
  • Small class sizes (typically fewer than 8 students per group)
  • Hands-on, vocational curriculum that includes construction, mechanics, and creative arts
  • Highly skilled and compassionate staff team who work collaboratively to support every learner
  • Positive behaviour culture based on mutual respect, consistency, and restorative practice

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • QTS, QTLS, or a relevant teaching/training qualification in construction or a related field
  • Experience teaching construction or vocational subjects, ideally within an alternative provision, PRU, or SEMH setting
  • A strong understanding of SEMH and trauma-informed practice
  • Excellent classroom management and the ability to build positive relationships with students
  • A flexible, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching

What You'll Get in Return

  • A rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people
  • Support from a dedicated Hays Education consultant throughout the recruitment process
  • Access to ongoing CPD and training opportunities
  • Competitive rates of pay
  • The chance to work in a forward-thinking, inclusive school environment
