An opportunity has arisen within this busy Pathology service to join the Chemical Pathology team. You will be part of a dedicated team of healthcare professionals who deliver a high-quality service that is responsive to patient requirements.
We are looking for a competent and versatile person with an absolute attention to details. Awareness of the requirements for compliance with
the ISO 15189 standards is a key requirement for this role. You will support the laboratory 24/7 service, working a rostered 7 day working pattern. We look to continually improve our services for our patients and are therefore looking for staff with the right attitude who will work with us to achieve this.

Pathology and Blood Sciences have had major investment in a new equipment and refurbishment with the implementation of a Beckman Power Express track (2016), running 2x AU5800 Biochemistry analysers and 2x DXI800 Immunoassay analysers (2016). We have also improved our protein electrophoresis laboratory with the implementation of a Capillarys 2 for the identification and quantitation of specific proteins.
We are committed to the quality of service we provide our patients and users and have been awarded ISO 15189 accreditation for Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion repertories. The laboratory is IOS 15189 accredited and is an IBMS training laboratory.
• The post holder will be part of a team of Biomedical Scientists delivering a diagnostic service analysing and reporting on blood, urine, faeces and other materials to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care, and effective resource management within the hospital.
• The post holder will undertake their responsibilities within the Chemical Pathology department to meet all required national and Trust standards.

• To operate in a professional manner in compliance with the professional codes of conduct (IBMS).
• To organise daily duties in the provision of a quality service.
• To prioritise the individual’s specialist workload.
• To use experience, knowledge and judgement to make decisions on laboratory results. To interpret complex multifactorial results and take appropriate actions in line with laboratory and National policies and procedures. E.g. Authorisation of results, ordering relevant follow up procedures, adding technical and approved clinically relevant comments, referring results for clinical interpretation or opinion, proactively informing a clinician of clinically significant results.
• To perform advanced maintenance and troubleshooting of all instruments within the department, utilising experience and judgement to effect repairs thus maintaining the operational effectiveness of the department.
