Building Surveyor - Social Housing

Location: North London
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 per annum

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Building Surveyor to join our social housing team in North London. This is a key role responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and improvement of our housing stock, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality living environments for our residents.

Reporting to the Senior Property Manager, you will be instrumental in delivering responsive repairs, voids, planned maintenance, and improvement projects across a diverse property portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct property inspections and building surveys across social housing stock in North London

  • Diagnose defects, specify remedial works, and manage repairs through to completion

  • Prepare schedules of work, tender documents, and cost estimates

  • Oversee planned and cyclical maintenance programmes

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety, and building regulations

  • Liaise with contractors, tenants, internal teams, and external consultants

  • Monitor budgets and ensure cost-effective service delivery

  • Support asset management strategies and stock condition surveys

  • Manage refurbishment and improvement projects from inception to completion

  • Provide technical advice and support to colleagues and stakeholders

Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a related field

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within social housing

  • Strong knowledge of building pathology, construction techniques, and housing standards

  • Good understanding of relevant housing legislation and health & safety regulations

  • Experience managing contractors and overseeing works on site

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills

  • Proficiency in IT systems and surveying software

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
