Project Engineer – Simulation & Modelling
Are you a skilled simulation modeller or data-driven problem solver who thrives on working collaboratively to deliver real-world impact? We have an exciting opportunity in the Integrated Manufacturing Group (IMG) at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) for someone with a passion for Discrete Event Simulation (DES), digital manufacturing, and data analytics, looking to use their skills to shape the future of high-value manufacturing.
Make a real-world impact
In this role, you’ll join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team delivering innovative solutions for manufacturers across various sectors (including aerospace, automotive, food & drink, and energy). You’ll apply your skills in simulation modelling, factory flow optimisation, cost evaluation, and supply chain analytics to improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability for our industrial partners.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges and developing impactful tools and insights. If you have experience with DES software (e.g. AnyLogic, Plant Simulation, Witness) and are familiar with data-driven decision-making in manufacturing, this is a fantastic opportunity to work on projects that drive real change.
What you’ll do:
● Develop and deliver simulation models to support industrial and research projects
● Analyse supply chains, factory configurations, and manufacturing flows using DES and mathematical modelling
● Contribute to reports, technical documentation and presentations for diverse audiences
● Collaborate with industrial partners and academic colleagues across the UK
● Research novel technologies and help develop new project ideas
● Attend events, conferences, and trade shows to enhance professional development
● Work in a flexible, inclusive and highly collaborative environment
We’re looking for someone who:
● Holds a good honours degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject such as Operational Research, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
● Has experience in simulation or mathematical modelling
● Is confident using DES software (e.g. AnyLogic, Witness, MATLAB, Plant Simulation)
● Can communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
● Works well both independently and in collaborative project teams
Desirable experience includes: programming (e.g. Python, JavaScript, C#) and knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies such as Digital Twins, IoT, and AI.
Why join IMG at the AMRC?
At IMG, we combine innovative research with real-world application. From optimising shop floors to visualising future supply chains, our projects are practical, applied, and impactful. You’ll work with major industrial partners and SMEs alike, delivering solutions that shape the UK’s high-value manufacturing future.
We value curiosity, collaboration, and creativity—whether you're early in your career or looking for the next step, you’ll find opportunities here to grow and make a difference.
