Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to announce these innovative and exciting posts, with working hours of Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 16:30. These roles are designed primarily for doctors who have successfully completed their FY2 placements and are looking to gain further experience. You'll be covering general medical wards, and we see these roles as an ideal stepping stone between FY2 and Specialty training, offering opportunities to develop skills in areas like medical education, quality/service improvement, and medical leadership. These positions combine service delivery and educational input within the stroke and acute medicine services, as well as other specialties within the Division of Medicine. While these are not recognised UK training posts, successful applicants will have a named supervisor and be supported in undertaking a wide range of CV-enhancing activities, in addition to participating in scheduled educational opportunities within the Trust and specialties. An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from Dr Nigel Artis, Divisional Clinical Director The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust provides Acute care across the range of medical specialities in a large modern purpose built hospital in Wakefield, which includes an Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit. We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury Hospital. Successful applicants will support our general medical wards across both Dewsbury and Pinderfields Hospital. The Service Role From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site 08:30 16:30 rota. The junior trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 junior doctor contract averaging 40 hours per week. Duties will be based primarily on our Dewsbury Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites. These roles will enable the post holder to take supervised responsibility for patient care and consolidate the skills they have learned at medical school. As the post holder gains experience they will remain under clinical supervision but take on increasing responsibility for patient care. In particular they will begin to make management decisions as part of their progress to independent practice. During their tenure the post holder will further develop their core generic skills and contribute more to the education and training of the wider healthcare workforce. At the end of their tenure the post holder will have begun to demonstrate clinical effectiveness, leadership and the decision making responsibilities that are essential for the next stage of their careers. The Additional Roles Successful applicants will initially be given lead roles in identified projects in one or more of the areas identified below reflecting their key interests and objectives for their year. In addition they will be encouraged and supported in creating new initiatives/projects which address challenges and opportunities facing the Trust. Medical Education We have a very active medical education department. We have close links with the University of Leeds and receive excellent feedback from our medical students. You will have the opportunity to get involved with teaching should you so wish. We also have weekly grand rounds and departmental teaching. There is a simulation department if you would want to improve your clinical skills. Quality/Service Improvement Our dedicated audit and project improvement department are available to support any quality improvement projects you would wish to be involved in. Revalidation This post is not recognised for training and brings with it an obligation to engage with the process of revalidation on an annual basis. The Trust has procedures that comply with national recommendations. As a Trust employed doctor on a fixed term contract successfully appointed applicants will need to have a prescribed connection with Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust via GMC Connect and will therefore have Dr Richard Robinson the Medical Director at the Trust as their GMC Responsible Officer. We have a dedicated organisational development department who can help you with the revalidation process. Terms & Conditions and Tenure Employment will be as a MYDoc Foundation Plus on Trust Terms and Conditions of Service. The post is offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months, any further opportunities would need to be appointed via a competitive interview process.
