This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and energetic leader to join one of the UK’s largest, most progressive pathology networks - Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Service.

We’re looking for a forward-thinking Deputy General Manager to lead our Haematology and Blood Transfusion operations across three major Surrey hospital sites - Frimley Park, Ashford & St Peter’s and Surrey & Sussex Healthcare Foundation trust Hospitals.

As a key member of the BSPS Blood Sciences senior leadership team, you’ll not only drive local operational performance but also shape the future of Haematology and Transfusion services across all six BSPS laboratories. You’ll take the lead on high impact areas such as haemoglobinopathies, digital transformation, and clinical quality, making a measurable difference to patient care and diagnostic excellence.

This is a pivotal succession role with a planned transition period, offering the chance to work alongside the current post holder before stepping fully into the role. We’re looking for someone with vision, drive, and a collaborative mindset, ready to lead with confidence and deliver meaningful transformation across a large, complex and ambitious service.

Provide operational leadership for Blood Sciences at FPH, ASPH, and SASH sites.

• Lead the network-wide development and harmonisation of Haematology and Blood Transfusion services.
• Oversee service performance, quality standards, laboratory accreditation, and regulatory compliance.
• Deliver effective workforce planning, financial control, and service innovation.
• Work collaboratively with site and specialty leads to ensure excellent patient care.
• Participate in the BSPS Gold out-of-hours escalation rota, representing senior leadership during major incidents.
• From December 2025, assume full accountability for service delivery across all assigned sites.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is committed to being an inclusive and disability confident employer and has been awarded the Gold for the Armed Forces Employment Recognition Scheme. We provide first class development opportunities for all staff and have a wide range of professional, management and leadership, and clinical skills training available.

Here at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, we know how important it is to have a healthy work life balance; this benefits not only individuals but the patients we care for too.

We encourage applications from people who wish to work on a flexible basis, recognising that flexibility may mean a range of different working patterns and hours, we do our utmost to work with our staff to meet their needs and the needs of our service and its users.

As part of a three-person senior leadership team, the role also contributes to the strategic and operational management of the wider BSPS Blood Sciences network.

The post holder will work alongside the current DGM during a transition period ahead of their planned retirement in late 2025. During this period, responsibilities will be phased in, including financial management, quality leadership, and oversight of specialist services such as haemoglobinopathy care and digital morphology. From December 2025, the post holder will assume full accountability for operational delivery and clinical leadership across FPH, ASPH, and SASH.

Key responsibilities include:
• Ensuring ISO and MHRA compliance across Haematology and Blood Transfusion services.
• Leading quality improvement, staff development, and patient safety initiatives.
