We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic HCPC-registered Healthcare Scientist, to join our award-winning team at Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) Point of Care Testing (POCT) Community team. BSPS is a large network of NHS laboratories serving 6 acute NHS Trusts: Ashford & St Peter’s NHS FT, Frimley Health NHS FT, Royal Berkshire NHS FT, Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, Royal Surrey NHS FT and Wexham Park Hospital NHS FT.

POCT Community team is an innovative, pioneering and progressive rapid POCT service. Responsibilities lie in managing roaming POCT equipment and static devices based at community sites, ensuring POCT is effectively integrated into community-based services, driving the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. POCT Community supports healthcare professionals in delivering care closer to home while being compliant with quality standards and striving for continuous improvement within community healthcare settings.

This post is required to support the Hospital at Home services and will report to and work closely with the team to regularly engage with the clinical teams of the partner commissioning Trusts.

The post-holder is expected to work in a cross-site manner and a for visiting all Community services when required.

We warmly welcome applications from all pathology disciplines relevant to POCT as the training for the specifics of the POCT Community service can be delivered to the successful candidate.

The postholder will support and deputise for the Point of Care Testing Community co-ordinator to deliver high quality, efficient, and reliable POCT services to all community sites supported by the BSPS network.

These include services such as Virtual Ward, Hospital at Home, and Community Diagnostic Centres. Community services are rapidly expanding, and the postholder will support the new services in addition to those existing. They will coordinate the deployment and integration of POCT devices with IT systems including POCT middleware, LIMS and onwards to Health Electronic Records used by the clinical services. The role will be critical to troubleshoot IT issues, develop procedures for data analysis and reporting on services to ensure financial management and clarity. They shall train and support healthcare staff using the kit and create user guides, and streamline IT operations for effective clinical and operational decision-making.
