1) To support the inpatient service in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at New Cross Hospital. 2) Outpatient workload: duties involve antenatal/gynaecology clinics and elective operating theatre lists. 3) Research, education, audit and continuing professional development a. To take responsibility for continuing professional education in accordance with guidelines set out by the appropriate college/faculty/professional body. b. To initiate and participate in research and audit programmes in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. c. To work in collaboration with colleagues in developing skills to provide new ways of working across different professions, organisations i.e. community/primary care. 4) In conjunction with colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met. 5) Duties will involve labour ward and emergency gynaecology cover, antenatal/gynaecology clinics and elective operating theatre lists. The post holder will be responsible for the clinical care of Obstetric and Gynaecological patients under supervision as necessary. 6) The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of proper case records and investigations on patients, and correspondence with General Practitioners and others as required. 7) General elements a. To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care. b. To be able to work flexibly, and cross cover for colleagues. c. To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. d. To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development. e. To contribute to the research and development of the department. f. To provide cover for colleagues as appropriate and in accordance with local Trust arrangements and Trust Policy. g. To observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures h. To take responsibility for your own health and safety complying with any safe working arrangements, policies and procedures which are in place. i. To accept a duty to other staff and patients to ensure that any hazards are reported and managed appropriately. j. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of patients to be able to contact you when necessary k. We are committed to continued support for professional development, with study leave provided within budget. l. The appointment(s) will be full time (fixed term) and will have an educational supervisor and a mentor. m. Support for the new appointee will primarily be from within the Department. Clinical audit/departmental teaching The Trust has a supportive environment and is still small enough for personal contact with colleagues from a wide variety of disciplines. Obstetrics and Gynaecology teaching takes place each Wednesday afternoon. There is a regular rota for teaching and the audit sessions. There is a multidisciplinary mortality and morbidity meeting held every month. The appointment is a whole time appointment. The appointment will be to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. The post holder will be managerially accountable to the Clinical Director of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Junior Medical Staff should ensure that only 2 members of each rota is on leave at one time. Approval for leave is at the discretion of the relevant Consultants and is department on continuity of patient care. Applicants should, by the date of commencement, have registered with the General Medical Council. The appointment is subject to satisfactory health clearance and clearance by the Disclosure and Barring Service (Enhanced DBS). The appointed doctor accepts that he/she will perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at Consultant request, though junior doctors will not be required to undertake this work for prolonged periods on a regular basis. You are expected to cover the absence of colleagues on study and annual leave during the day time. The annual Leave entitlement is 27 days plus 8 bank holidays days per annum, pro rata for contracts of less than 12 months.
