Are you a skilled and compassionate Occupational therapist looking for flexible work in a fast paced, rewarding environment? We are currently seeking motivated and experienced bank inpatient occupational therapists to join our Inpatient therapy team at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, providing cover for staff absences and supporting service demand.

The successful candidate is required to be able to demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification. You should have proven experience of working in the following areas of orthopaedics, acute medicine and frailty, respiratory. neurology and emergency department.

• To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupational therapy interventions.
• To provide leadership for junior staff, as delegated by supervisor.
• To supervise occupational therapy students on practice placements.

The Band 6 OT will be expected to work in accordance with the standards, policies, and procedures established in this clinical area. Under the guidance of a senior therapist, each OT will carry out assessment (standardised or locally agreed) and plan and implement treatment programmes as appropriate for the patient and clinical area. They will also be responsible for the supervision of junior, support staff and / or students.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To be professional, legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work

2.To assess the occupational needs of a defined patient group and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment programmes.

3.To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for patients with multiple needs in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.

4.To participate in multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment provision.

4.To select and apply occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the patient in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PATIENTS

1.To be able to communicate effectively with users and carers, team members, OT colleagues and other agencies, including people who may have sensory disabilities e.g. visual and sensory impairments, speech and comprehension difficulties.

2.To plan and implement individual and /or group interventions, in collaboration with the patient, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.

3.To provide support and education to patients and carers regarding all aspects of occupational therapy e.g. equipment fitting, rehab programmes.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

1.To demonstrate understanding and application of national guidelines and legislation relation to health and social care in health service provision.

2.To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.

3.To demonstrate the ability to reflect on ethical issues and to provide guidance to junior staff as necessary.
