Here at Hadlow College, we have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individuals to join our Horticulture team on a casual basis! The role will primarily be working on our nursery growing a range of plants with students and supporting students who are learning the skills of crop production. All the plants are grown peat free using sustainable materials where possible. In addition to this you will be supporting the production of two crops of hydroponic tomatoes grown in our Centre of Excellence for greenhouse growing in partnership with Thanet Earth. Our nursery has only be set up and running for 3 seasons and consists of a new twin span polytunnel, standing down areas and a new Venlo glasshouse. We have a small strawberry and raspberry crop both grown in media and you would be supporting these trial crops too. All of these crops require daily attention so weekend work is part of the job and you would need to be on a weekend rota. All of our plants are sold through our Pop Up plant sale which is on Campus, the successful candidate would be key in supporting this venture, working with the public helping them to select their plants so good plant knowledge is an advantage. At times you would also be required to work alongside lecturers to help prepare practical sessions, support practical exams and to assist with the maintenance of tools and equipment. This is a very exciting role, working on a varied range of crops using modern and traditional horticultural techniques.
