About the Role and our Ideal Candidate
Against a backdrop of increasing housing targets driven by the London Plan and the development of a Local Plan for the borough, the development sector is pursuing many redevelopment opportunities within the borough. There is a need to lead the development management process working across the wider planning team to proactively engage with developers to support them navigate through the planning process in a positive and proactive manner.
The two Lead Officer Role roles serve to consolidate the senior tier of development professionals, to provide greater focus and act as the link between the development sector and the Council’s planning function to both promote delivery whilst securing quality outcomes that respect the views of the wider community.
Role purpose:
To work collaboratively with the co-lead officer and Head of Service, to lead the council’s Development Management function including responsibility for all stages of the planning process from pre-application to delivery. To collaboratively matrix-manage a team of planners from Career Grade to Principal.
To coordinate and manage the Council’s handling of the entire planning process from the validation through to development including negotiating legal agreements and discharging conditions, for the range of planning applications from householder and minor to key sites to major developments within the borough. Through a project management style approach, the role will also be responsible for facilitating positive outcomes from the planning process to support delivery on high profile, strategically significant and complex sites.
The role reports directly to the Head of Development Management, and is responsible for the Development Management team.
