We are seeking a motivated and experienced Lecturer in Bioinformatics and Genomic Medicine to join our growing academic team at Aston Medical School. This non-clinical post will contribute to both teaching and research, particularly across our new MSc and MRes programmes in Bioinformatics and Genomic Medicine (launching September 2025).

The successful candidate will have a strong background in computational genomics, bioinformatics, or genomic data science, with a passion for postgraduate teaching and interdisciplinary research. You will conduct research aligned with your expertise, particularly in areas such as genomic, transcriptomic, or epigenomic analysis, with applications to disease mechanisms and clinical translation.

This role reflects Aston’s commitment to equipping future healthcare professionals with vital data science skills and supports our 2030 strategy to be a leading university in science, technology, and enterprise.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated academic bioinformatician/researcher to shape future-facing education and contribute to impactful research in a dynamic and growing area of biomedical science.

The appointed candidate is to hold a PhD in a relevant academic discipline and should have postdoctoral experience in bioinformatics or computational genomics, a developing research profile, and a strong interest in shaping innovative, future-facing education.

While the post is offered on a full-time basis, we welcome applications from those seeking part-time arrangements.

The appointee will work closely with:

Professor Eamonn Maher, Dean of Aston Medical School: https://research.aston.ac.uk/en/persons/eamonn-maher
Dr Mohammed Elasrag, Lecturer in Medical Genomics and Bioinformatics https://research.aston.ac.uk/en/persons/mohammed-e-el-asrag
As well as a wider network of academic colleagues and interdisciplinary partners.

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Eamonn Maher at e.maher@aston.ac.uk.
