As a registered nurse provide quality nursing to patients whilst acting in their best interests, promoting health, developing areas of nursing expertise and contributing to the multi-disciplinary team approach to care. Ensure that patient needs are assessed, care is planned and delivered in line with individual plans, continuing evaluation and response is monitored and actions taken in accordance with good nursing care in a compassionate manner maintaining patient dignity and respect. Patients may be on the ward as inpatients or attending as casualty or outpatients. Undertake direct patient care based on Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) competencies, demonstrating expertise, acting as a role model and ensuring any alteration in health is noted, care plans altered and deterioration recognised and acted upon in an appropriate and timely manner, including taking part in and being the lead in emergency situations. Deliver quality, evidence-based individual models of care which comply with locally-adopted guidelines and policies. Promote health and optimise outcomes by providing education to patients, families and the community. Act as part of the multi-disciplinary team in promoting a rehabilitative approach, planning discharge and onward care management with an integrated approach and ensuring that patients needs are safeguarded. Support patients, their families and the public equally with dignity and respect recognising diversity and demonstrating equality of opportunity with a rehabilitative approach or supporting a peaceful death. As a registered nurse, giving care to patients in the acute setting, providing care to patients with a diverse range of presenting conditions and backgrounds. Participate in the development of nursing including standards, educational and research strategies to recognise unsafe/unacceptable nursing practice and take/propose remedial action. Contribute to the overall development of nursing. Must work within locally agreed policies, procedures and standards.
