JOB DESCRIPTION
Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I’m a 14 year old girl living with my family in Penarth. I have Down’s syndrome and am mostly non-verbal, but communicate well with Makaton. I also keep some communication cards with me.
I am kind, patient, loves singing, dancing and going to parks. I have little to no danger awareness, but my family is trying to develop my road safety by teaching me to look both ways before crossing the road.
When we’re out I need to be reminded to use the toilet as I can forget especially when I’m having fun.
PURPOSE OF JOB
The main purpose is helping me understand and make choices. Telling people what I want is important so you’ll help me to express this.
To support me out in the community, encourage my independence and living skills. Also to ensure my family knows I am safe.
HOURS OF WORK
3 hours per week
Flexibility of day and time to be worked
RATE OF PAY
£15.00 per hour and 0.40p a mile.
TASKS INVOLVED
Supporting me when out in my local community
Using your car to take me places of my choice
Encourage my independence, living and social skills
Ensuring my safety at all times
Teaching me road safety awareness
Reminding me to use the toilet when we’re out
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
Patient, kind and friendly
You must be sensible, mature and reliable
Knowing how to use Makaton will be really helpful

ABOUT THE JOB
This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.
Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
Wages will be paid on a four-weekly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
Please note: Dewis Centre for Independent Living is acting on behalf of a third party and will not serve as your employer or be liable for any issues arising from your employment should you be offered the position.
