Would you like to be part of our friendly, welcoming Area 5 Highways team, proud to manage all aspects of the highway network in and around Skipton?



We are looking for an experienced co-ordinator to join the team as a Highways Maintenance Manager



Our area includes the historic market town of Skipton, often referred to as the "Gateway to the Dales" as well as picturesque villages such as Grassington, Malham, and Kettlewell, nestled within the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park. Join us in helping to keep this beautiful and vital region moving safely and efficiently.



The Role



As a Maintenance Manager you will be liaising and collaborating with our delivery partners to develop positive relationships and improve delivery performance across our Highways North Yorkshire partnership. This is a key element of the role as well as fostering good relationships with Elected Members and the wider community of stakeholders we engage with.



The Highways Operations Unit is responsible for the implementation of highway improvement and maintenance schemes, routine highway maintenance activities, delivery of the winter maintenance services, local network management and liaison with the public at a local level.



The main focus of the role of Maintenance Manager will be to lead the team to ensure highway safety compliance. You will:

assess and identify highway maintenance works, including drainage and surface treatments.
prepare design briefs that contribute to the delivery of the local capital programme, including the monitoring and management of local budgets.
assist in delivering our winter service in your capacity as duty manager on a standby rota basis as well as assisting with other emergencies.
The role will include some occasional out of hours working.

To be successful you must meet the following criteria:

Hold an HNC/HND in an appropriate technical discipline or similar appropriate qualifications
Ability to deputise for Area Manager
Significant relevant Highways Experience
Experience of maintenance and improvement scheme design and implementation
Experience of budgetary control
Ability to relate to the public
Customer focussed
Political awareness
