Summary


Macmillan Wellbeing / Neurology ANP

(Cancer Services)

Band 7

Hours: 22.5 per week

Fixed term / secondment 12 months to cover maternity leave

This is a very exciting opportunity to become a pivotal member of the wellbeing service at MKUH cancer centre. The post holder will be the responsible for the Neurology cancer CNS support as well as supporting the wellbeing servcie wihtin the cancer centre. The post holder will have an expert knowledge and clinical skills within cancer management and will of worked with patietns and families providing holisitc support understanding the importance is both medical and psycological care.

The post holder will have operational responsibility for the Neurology cancer CNS workload and supporting the wider wellbeing team on group and individual activities surrounding patient and family care.. They will have excellent communication skills, strong leadership, management andinterpersonal skills with the ability to drive change to ensure that the cancer service in the Trust is both safe and effective.

The post holder will be a highly visible presence across the specialty, they will work to ensure the highest standards of care, setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence and continuously improving experiences for patients, families and carers.

• Provision of cancer related information to patients, careers and health care staff within and outside the trust
• Provision of support and up to level 3 counselling to patients, careers and health care staff within and outside the trust.
• Position the Macmillan Information and Support Centre as an information and support resource for the MK community and advertise the services available widely
• Ensure there is a 24-hour answer phone service in the Centre and that messages are dealt with promptly and appropriately
• Is a link between cancer services and CAB, holistic therapy and psychology.

Professional and Clinical



· Analyses and interprets national and local recommendations for Neurology cancer and develops plans with others to implement and achieve compliance

· Attends quarterly cancer network meetings in the specialty of Neurology cancer

· Contributes to the hospital weekly MDT meeting and the cancer network measures it must achieve

· Contributes to key work of the senior cancer nursing team across the hospital (practice development in patient areas, improving the patient experience)

· Maintains the key standards of the senior cancer nursing team (patient access to specialist nursing, high quality patient information and support).



Training and Education


• Ensure the 'Centre volunteers are trained to appropriate standards as described by Milton Keynes Policies and Macmillan Cancer Support
• Ensure the 'Centre volunteers and other staff who assist the 'Centre are aware of trust policies and guidance, especially in relation to patient confidentiality and health and safety.

Quality and Audit


• To undertake audits of the Macmillan Information and Support Centre in collaboration with the Head of Cancer Services and Macmillan Cancer Support
• Work with the MK Cancer Patient Partnership group to ensure the 'Centre is responsive to patient need and experience and undertakes specific projects in relation to patient information and support.
