Nettleham Parish Council is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Clerk to the Council to lead the next phase of our development. This is a key leadership opportunity in a dynamic, ambitious Parish Council delivering high-quality services to a thriving community.
About the Role
As the Council’s Proper Officer, you will play a pivotal leadership role:
• Advising elected members and supporting policy development
• Overseeing all staff and line-managing a full-time Facilities Manager (who handles daily facilities management), a Responsible Financial Officer (RFO), who manages day-to-day finances, as well as an Accounts Assistant and an Assistant Clerk.
• Ensuring full compliance with legal, statutory, and governance requirements
• Supporting effective decision-making and community engagement
This is a 30-hour/week position (with scope for flexibility or review), including attendance at evening Council meetings. Options for hybrid working are available, though regular attendance at the Parish Office is essential.
What We’re Looking For
• Significant experience as a Clerk, Deputy Clerk, or in a relevant local government role
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
• Resilience, professionalism, and the ability to manage complex or sensitive situations
• Excellent IT and digital skills
• Experience in staff management (including specialist roles such as Facilities Manager, RFO, or equivalent)
• A good understanding of Council governance, statutory compliance, and community engagement
• CiLCA is highly desirable (or commitment to achieve within 2 years); degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject welcomed
Salary & Benefits
• Salary: Local Government pay scale SCP 32–38 (£33,657 – £38,719), depending on experience and qualifications
