About the Employer

We are a family of 6 and we live in the centre of Hartlepool which is quite close in terms of access to the main shopping area, parks, and other local amenities. We also have a dog who is very friendly. The post holder must be able to be around dogs in the home.

Our son has several mental and physical disabilities. He is non-verbal and communicates his wants and needs using gestures and noises, so would require someone who has the skills to get to know him well and understand what he needs. He is severely autistic and requires someone who can learn his routine, as well as learn how work with him when changes are required. As our son’s care needs are very complex and will require someone with some experience or knowledge in dealing with complex care.

This position may at times be physically demanding, so would require someone who is physically capable, particularly when performing incontinence changes.

About the Role

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
• Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
• Support and/or prompt the individual to take medication.
• Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
• Support and/or prompt to attend appointments as necessary, e.g. hospital/doctors.
• Support with food shopping.
• Support to get to and from school/work/college/social activities.
• Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
• Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.

Only candidates aged 18 or over should apply for this position as you will be required to administer medication.

The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).

Transport Requirement:

Car driver and car owner – must have business insurance.

Required Skills:

• Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
• To be able to work on own initiative.
• To be able to follow instructions accurately.
• Be patient, supportive and caring.
• Have good listening skills and be able to provide non-judgemental emotional support.
• Be empathetic.
• Previous caring experience is essential.
• Previous experience in childcare/special needs is essential.
• Be able to work flexibly, adapting to the employers needs on a daily basis.
• Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.
• Must have at least 2 years’ experience in working with young adults/children with complex care needs.
• Knowledge and experience of dealing with children/adults with Autism and severe learning difficulties.

When you are Required:

Hours per week: 4x Personal Assistants Required. TERM TIME: PA 1 - 12.75hrs. PA 2 - 16.5hrs. PA 3 - 8.25hrs. PA 4 - 10.5hrs. SCHOOL HOLS: PA 1 - 24hrs. PA 2 - 24hrs. PA 3 - 15hrs. PA 4 - 15hrs.
