Communication Communicate highly complex and sensitive information using a variety of communication skills to ensure the effective understanding of complex information. to clinical teams and other colleagues To have the ability to understand complex facts where there may be uncertainty and conflict. Ensure that information on safeguarding issues and processes are available in a variety of formats within the organisation. Attend Trust forums pertinent to safeguarding i.e. safeguarding operational and Safeguarding / Psychosocial meetings. Chair the weekly safeguarding /psychosocial meetings ensuring actions are monitored and completed appropriately. Work collaboratively with safeguarding professionals to foster and maintain excellent liaison, communication and working relationships. Comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Ensure that confidential information is shared appropriately, safely and in accordance with the local policies and procedures relating to information governance. Contributes to and/or prepare relevant reports, either internal or external with support from senior colleagues. Ensure information sharing and decision making are completed within agreed timescales. Ability to make informed recommendations, communicate to a range of professionals and respectfully challenge & escalate concerns when required in accordance with local guidance. Service Delivery and Improvement Provide support and expert advice to all staff in relation to safeguarding children. Work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams. Act as a role model for good practice. Represent the Trust at subgroup meetings of the local Safeguarding Childrens Partnership as required. Contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the safeguarding team. Actively contributes to safeguarding quality assurance and improvement framework. Participate in safeguarding audits and contribute to the development and monitoring of action plans and guidelines. Monitor clinical incidents related to safeguarding concerns, follow up and advise as required. Evaluate service delivery against key performance targets, national quality measures, identify areas for service development and improvement, working with others to initiate and implement change in practice. Update and maintain the database of safeguarding cases to enable accurate reporting of safeguarding data. Manage the safeguarding budget with regards to stationery and stock items to ensure cost-effective use of resources and delegate the ordering of training materials and stock items including stationary to the administrator. Collaborate with multi-agency partners in undertaking safeguarding reviews. To receive action plans from Trust safeguarding cases, request updates and monitor progress to completion Assist in the completion of the annual safeguarding report to Trust Board Play an active role in supporting the Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery for UHSussex Attend the Safeguarding Children Operational Group meetings and contribute to the completion of the work plan for the group. Act as the representative of the Trust for safeguarding issues at relevant meetings and forums. Deputise for the named nurse for Safeguarding children as required at relevant meetings and forums. Maintain a safe working environment. Ensure Trust policies regarding equality and diversity are always adhered to and act in such a manner. Demonstrate understanding of relevant national strategy/policy and how this relates to the service. Actively contribute to the development of the safeguarding children service and make recommendations, taking regard of the safeguarding needs of children and young people. People Management and Development Provide leadership and line management for the safeguarding team based at Royal Alexandra Childrens Hospital, Brighton and Princess Royal Hospitals- Haywards Heath and manage the day to day safeguarding activity. Support staff induction and ongoing staff development and undertake appraisals. Manage staff rostering and annual leave and absence leave in accordance with UHSussex policy. Support and advise Trust staff on a day-to-day basis in the process of assessing risk and sharing relevant information in relation to safeguarding children. Identify learning needs of staff relating to safeguarding issues. Working with the safeguarding team; develop, co-ordinate and deliver education and training sessions to a range of staff within the organisation. Provide safeguarding supervision in accordance with Trust Policy Facilitate and support the ongoing development of Safeguarding champions at ward level. Contribute to the Safeguarding children training strategy and action plan. Patient Care Delivery Gather and analyse highly complex information relating to different aspects of a childs and/or familys health and wellbeing. Exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and make critical judgments using expert knowledge related to safeguarding children. Provide professional advice and contribute to the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of care. Manage day to day safeguarding activity and actively maintaining a safe environment for children and families in relation to safeguarding and liaison. Ensure there is a unified understanding of the needs of the child and family in relation to safeguarding and the highest standards of Safeguarding and Liaison practice is delivered to the children and their families in partnership with all members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team. Apply professional curiosity in practice. Recognise case histories which may be abusive; clarify action taken by clinical staff and follow up appropriately. Ensure information is shared in accordance with the UHSussex Safeguarding information sharing criteria. Appreciate the vulnerabilities of looked after children and ensure relevant information is shared. Provide a trauma informed approach to care and promote awareness of the spiritual, psychological and emotional needs of the child and their family and endeavour to meet these needs at all times within the context of safeguarding the child. Act as a source of specialised knowledge and clinical expertise both in relation to safeguarding and health, to ensure care delivered to a child and family is appropriate, optimum and evidence based. Maintain a high and visible profile and act as a role model, offering highly specialised advice on safeguarding related issues. Learning and Development Support the development and delivery of the safeguarding children training strategy. Identify own learning needs and undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process. Participate in the Trusts appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service. Contribute to case reviews and make recommendations and support the development of action plans and the sharing of learning across UHSx. Support the embedding of learning into practice and monitor progress and improvement. Participate with research into safeguarding issues. Participate and contribute to local and multi-agency and S11 audit for safeguarding children. Participate in safeguarding reviews; review health records, compile chronologies and reports, analysing information to reach a conclusion based on the evidence and contribute to recommendations.
