This post will provide the opportunity for successful candidates to work in the tertiary Respiratory Centre. It is intended that this post could be tailored to meet training needs, including opportunities for trainees to become involved in procedural skills. This appointment will be based at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, St Jamess University Hospital, Leeds, one of the largest teaching hospital Trusts in the UK, serving a population of over 3 million. The department delivers specialist respiratory services including severe asthma, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, tuberculosis, COPD, and PCD. The lung cancer service is one of the largest in the UK and is home to the Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial. We offer bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, thoracoscopy and long-term pleural drainage. There is a well-established programme in collaboration with radiology to provide pleural ultrasound certification. The department consists of 3 inpatient wards and a 12 bed respiratory care unit offering non-invasive ventilation. There is a separate ward for the care of people with cystic fibrosis. The department has close links with the University of Leeds and supports delivery of a number of aspects of the under-graduate MB ChB course with a number of opportunities to engage within undergraduate teaching.
