What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an Assistant Science Technician to join our staff team at Stoke Damerel Community College and Scott Medical and Healthcare College Campus.This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the campus and further contribute to the life chances of young people in the school and across the Trust.
The Assistant Science Technicianwill support the science department ensuring the classrooms and prep spaces are maintained to provide a clean, safe and orderly environment. They will assist with the preparation of laboratory equipment for lessons, delivering and safely returning and storing equipment to the designated areas. If you are passionate about science education and able to develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues and students across the campus we would welcome your application.
Main responsibilities:
• Regular cleaning and restocking of glassware and other lab equipment
• Maintaining Science classrooms, prep spaces, sinks and fume cupboards to ensure a clean, safe and orderly environment
• Delivering and checking materials and equipment before and after use by a class for quantity and damage
• Safely returning and storing laboratory equipment to its designated area
• Follow departmental policies and procedures including for risk assessment and management
• Carrying out regular safety checks on laboratory equipment
• Caring for plants and animals kept in the department
• Attending relevant training courses, including first aid if required
• Assisting with the preparation of laboratory equipment for classes in accordance with given instructions
• Assisting the Lead Science Technician when supporting staff with the use of equipment and stock
• Assisting the Lead Science Technician with stock taking
• Working under direction of the Lead Science Technician over the safe disposal of chemicals and biological waste
• To participate in a programme of CPD
• To attend relevant wider school and Trust based training sessions
• To actively contribute to the performance management and appraisal process
