About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Interface Lead to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London – join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.
HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.
Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and Manage Construction Sequences:
Oversee the creation and management of construction sequences and logistical 2D plans, reviewing both permanent and temporary designs for major interfaces related to Old Oak Common (OOC) Station works. - Coordinate Method Driven-Led Optioneering Processes:
Facilitate method-led optioneering processes as required for tenders, pre-construction stages, or early construction stages. Collaborate with BBVS delivery teams and external parties to define the most effective methods, designs, and programme outcomes for the project. - Resolve Coordination Issues:
Address and resolve spatial and chronological coordination issues, providing support to both the delivery and design teams. - Coordinate and Review Interfaces: Manage and review specific interfaces and detailed construction site layouts. Liaise with the construction/delivery team, Network Rail/third parties, logistics team, programme team, and BIM team to ensure all stakeholders’ requirements are considered in support of construction sequencing.
- Clarify Subcontractors’ Scope of Works:
Review and clarify the scope of works for BBVS subcontractors. - Escalate Unresolved Issues:
Escalate unresolved coordination issues to Critical Interface Director as necessary. - Promote Health & Safety:
Integrate health and safety considerations into all developed proposals. - Support Modern Construction Methods:
Advocate for and support the adoption of modern construction methods to enhance productivity.
Who we're looking for
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in delivery of infrastructure projects
- Experience in rail projects related to design or delivery of works.
- Experience in developing and managing Risk Assessment and Method Statements
(RAMS) and/or work procedures. - Experience in temporary works.
- Experience with construction site layouts.
- Ability to understand drawings, identify clashes, and provide information to the Area Managers.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to form effective relationships with
partners under time pressure. - Experience working collaboratively in a consultant or contractor environment.
