Location: Liverpool L20

Salary: £27,924.41 per annum

Hours: 37.5hours per week, shifts from 9 -5, possible move to some late shifts – bank holiday are also included in the current working pattern

Job Type: Permanent/ Fixed Term

Why this role would be great for you

As a Support Practitioner at YMCA Together you will naturally be an empathetic and caring person wanting to provide support to a wide range of people who are experiencing challenging times. You will assist in the provision of effective, high quality support services to vulnerable, homeless individuals and families who present to Housing options and need an emergency response to their homeless situation. Support will be provided within their new temporary homes to secure a more permanent move on solution. You will support a caseload of both single people and families and to manage your own time and diaries effectively.

The Emergency accommodation service is made up of a diverse and culturally rich client group and to reflect the needs of the people in service we are actively encouraging applications from support workers who can speak Arabic or any other languages or can demonstrate experience of overcoming communication barriers where English is not the first language. Please ensure you indicate on your application form your language/s & proficiency level.



What your week may look like

Carry out new service user welcomes, inducting into their new properties and identifying immediate support needs.
Ensure that service users have a full understanding of their rights and responsibilities during their stay.
Proactively find ways to effectively communicate with service users where English is not the first language
Support service users to achieve their goals and proactively seek further move on accommodation into permanent housing
Liaise with partner agencies to ensure smooth delivery of housing-related support and swift responses to any property management needs.
Utilize the Tenancy workbook where needed to ensure everyone has the skills to manage future accommodation independently away from a supported housing pathway
Manage, update, and communicate service users’ safety planning in line with YMCA Together policy and procedure.
Ensure service users shape their own support and understand the purpose of the support provided.
Hold planned key-work sessions each week with service users using a person-centred reflective approach.

The skills we are looking for

EXPERIENCE– Ideally you will have a background of working within a charity, community project and/or previous involvement in the supported housing sector.
KNOWLEDGE – A basic understanding of relevant and appropriate legislation, including welfare benefits and housing law and an understanding of benefit maximisation and navigating Property pool plus
COMMUNICATION – Excellent communication, fostering a respectful, collaborative and professional approach to the people who you work alongside ensuring confidentiality at all times
EMPATHY and RESPECT – The ability to empower people to make positive changes, showing empathy whilst maintaining professional boundaries
COMMITMENT – The ability to work in an innovative and solutions focused way, including reflecting and learning as you go, and a willingness to flex and adapt approaches as needed
ORGANISATION – Strong time management and the ability to manage to prioritise tasks
COMPUTER LITERACY – You will be IT literate and have experience of working with multiple software programs such as Microsoft Office and Outlook.
