What the school offers its staff

Wimbledon College has a strong tradition of success in Science and offers a broad range of opportunities to study Science both in timetabled lessons and an extensive extra curriculum programme of events, visits and clubs. The school is also an Associate School of the Royal Society and regularly participates in its education events.

Science at the College is a popular choice for students and we have two sets of A-level classes for all three sciences and in addition Science BTEC is also offered. In Years 7 and 8 teachers teach all three sciences but by Year 9 an increasing number of lessons are taught by specialists in the relevant science. In Year 10 onwards teachers for the most part teach in their specialism(s).

The staff that make up the Science department are friendly, supportive and experienced and as such applications from recently qualified to more experienced teachers would be welcomed. For those at NQT or recently qualified teachers we offer ongoing professional training and support enabling you to develop into an outstanding practitioner.

The post offers a well-resourced department with three specialist technicians that ensures that the work done in class is aiming to be creative, engaging and challenging for the students and satisfying for you as a teacher. Underpinning all our work is the school’s ethos of ‘cura personalis’ (the care of the individual).

The department has ten laboratories, all of which will have been gradually refurbished over the last few years. There is an independent learning area for Sixth Form Science students with 16 computers. There are three full time science technicians helping ensure a practical approach is followed in the teaching of science at all levels. Science has its own dedicated Teaching Support Assistant.
