Summary


We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Patient Safety Midwife to lead in key clinical presence across maternity services, helping to develop and maternity staff in learning from safety incidents and reducing harm and risk across the maternity service.

As part of the maternity patient safety team, you will deliver expert training and guidance surrounding quality and safety and collaborate with the senior midwifery team to implement evidence-based practices and manage risk.

The patient safety midwife will Support the Deputy Associate Director of Midwifery and Lead for Quality and Safety to ensure key safety messages and learning are being delivered to the MDT in the Women’s Division.

The successful post holder will work closely with the lead obstetric consultant for clinical governance and ensure the learning from key adverse incidents is shared with the wider MDT via teaching, presentations, and simulation as part of a wider commitment to improving the safety culture in maternity services.

The patient safety midwife will work closely with clinical governance operational leads to ensure complaints & adverse incident are investigated in a timely manner, thematically reviewed and presented back to the teams – working with our patient experience and engagement leads to ensure credible improvement plans are introduced.

The post holder will work as a senior support to the Divisional leadership team for Women’s services and deliver key learning work streams linked to the output of the women’s operational clinical governance team.

This includes using data from Datix for updating ward and unit safety boards, developing safety newsletters, writing up and presenting patient cases alongside thematically reviewing adverse incidents, trends in risks and the Divisional complaints activity.

This role will be a key clinical presence across maternity services, helping to develop and coach local leaders in learning from safety incidents and reducing harm and risk across the division.
