The Role
We are seeking a confident and commercially minded Management Accountant to support our operational and strategic decision-making. This is a hands-on role that requires a blend of technical expertise, business insight, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts
• Analyse financial performance and report variances
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning cycles
• Provide financial insight to project leads, R&D teams, and senior managers
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures
• Assist with grant accounting and cost allocations across multiple workstreams
• Collaborate with the wider University of Bath and external stakeholders
About You
You combine technical accounting ability with strong interpersonal skills. You enjoy working in a fast-moving, innovative environment and have a genuine interest in sustainable technologies and future mobility.
Comfortable and happy working in a young dynamic organisation; able to stretch from the strategic to the operational as and when needed. Good communication and relationship-building skills; ability to adapt personal style to different audiences, provide feedback, influence, and challenge effectively.
Essential Criteria
• Minimum part qualified (CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent)
• Proven experience in a management accounting or similar finance role
• Strong Excel and financial systems knowledge
• Excellent communication and analytical skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work collaboratively
Desirable Criteria
• Fully qualified (CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent)
• Experience in engineering, R&D, or higher education sector
• Knowledge of project accounting and grant-funded work
• Familiarity with Sage and reporting tools such as Power Query
