What skills and experience we're looking for

The Queens’ Federation Governing Body is seeking to appoint a class teacher at Queen Emma School to start from 1st September 2025. The post is a temporary contract to provide maternity leave cover. Applications from experienced teachers and ECTs will be welcomed.

What the school offers its staff

Queen Edith and Queen Emma Primary Schools are part of the Queens’ Federation. They are two large, thriving city schools, both in the centre of Cambridge. They are run by one Governing Body and a highly experienced leadership team. Teachers work collaboratively with their year group partner and share planning and assessment across the federation.

We have a reputation for being a warm and welcoming community with strong parent partnerships and an inclusive ethos. We aspire to motivate children through a creative curriculum and promote first-hand experiences. We are part of the international project the Leader in Me and value and nurture leadership skills in both children and staff.

Person Specification

Essential experience and characteristics

The Federation is looking to appoint enthusiastic and creative teachers to work within our teams atQueen Edith and Queen Emma Primary Schools. We would expect the successful candidates to haveprevious experience or to have completed successful teaching practices. A positive experienceduring Ofsted or on teaching practice would be essential and evidence of high level teaching skillswould be required.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to work with children of all abilities andunderstand the needs of bi-lingual pupils. Practical use of a range of strategies to promote goodbehaviour and to work with children presenting challenging behaviour will be necessary.

We would look for evidence of excellent working relationships with children, staff and parents. Theability to work collaboratively and be flexible is needed. Previous examples of successful teamworkwill be discussed.

All staff are expected to follow the schools’ safeguarding and child protection procedures and takeall appropriate steps to promote children’s well-being and self-esteem.

Desirable knowledge and skills

It is desirable for the candidate to be well qualified and to have a good knowledge of recentdevelopments in teaching and learning.

It is also desirable for the candidate to be willing to run extra-curricular activities and to be preparedto become fully involved in the life of the schools.
