About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher to join our Autism Team as part of the Nottingham City SEND support services (ISS), from September 2025, or as soon as possible after. The role involves working within a well-established specialist team, supporting settings to meet the needs of autistic children and young people and their families. The team works in collaboration with the wider SEND support service and other Local authority provision, such as health and social care. The Autism team is comprised of specialist teachers and transition support workers.
We are looking for someone who is highly motivated and experienced, who can work in partnership with schools, settings and families to promote the achievement, inclusion and independence of autistic children and young people across Nottingham.
The successful candidate should have up to date knowledge of autism and all areas of SEND, as well an understanding of evidence-based interventions to improve curriculum access and inclusion for autistic children and young people. Experience of working directly with schools to foster a whole school approach to inclusion and improving educational outcomes is essential. Knowledge and experience of Autism Education Trust (AET) framework and education programmes is desirable, as is an additional qualification in the field of SEND.
This fixed-term post is available from September 2025- August 2026, but there is a possibility that this may be extended. A secondment would be considered for this role. The position is a term-time only role in accordance with teacher's terms and conditions.
About You:
- Teacher qualification (QTS)
- Whole class teaching experience of a number of years
- Experience of working with autistic children and young people
- Experience of working with educational providers and of system change/school improvement with preferable experience of delivering CPD
- Understanding of the principles of inclusive education
- Knowledge and experience of using evidence-based interventions to meet the needs of autistic children and young people
