We are looking for a personal assistant for my 33 year old son with various difficulties including ASD (autism spectrum disorder), epilepsy and challenging behaviours. The PA’s responsibilities are centred around assisting him with daily life including, assistance with personal care (inc. toileting, clothing, washing etc.) home assistance (inc. meal preparation, laundry, cleaning etc.) and community access (inc. getting in and out the vehicle, support and assistance when out in the community, dog walking etc.)

His main hobby centres around walking his dog so we need someone who is a keen walker and happy to be outdoors. A suitable candidate must be comfortable with dogs. He also enjoys swimming so candidates must be comfortable in a pool depth of 1.3m. His social and emotional needs are complex, so our main priority is making sure the relationship is a good fit and he has a support system he can feel comfortable and safe with.

Working hours would mostly be centred around his routine of going out in the community and long walks. Various shifts are available including weekends, evenings and waking night shifts. Ideal candidates should have flexibility for various shifts. There will also be options of additional shifts due to holiday cover. We operate on a 4 week basis of agreed working hours which means that working hours will be offered and you will be free to accept or decline offers of work, with a notice period of four weeks. This is to ensure that PAs have a fixed and structured work schedule in advance that also reflects the individuals needs and allows for flexibility based on changes.

All personal assistants are required to keep a detailed diary log of their shifts which will include incidents, behavioural reports and a daily diary of general daily tasks completed. Daily logs must be submitted within 24 hours of finishing a shift.

Candidate qualities:

Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
Honest and cheerful
Creative
Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
Must be comfortable with pets
Able to always work to high standards of health & safety


Must be comfortable with social activities such as swimming (pool depth 1.3m)
Full UK Drivers Licence (you are required to drive as part of this role unless specified otherwise)
Experience with ASD and learning difficulties desirable but not essential
