Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: WF17, Batley
Start Date: 1st July 2025
Hours: 8:30 AM 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday (term-time only)
Pay: GBP95 - GBP105 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Temporary (with potential for permanent placement)
About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team at a specialist school in WF17. This school supports children and young people with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, and often additional learning difficulties or behavioural challenges.
Your role will be to work closely with teaching staff, support teams, and students to provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning, develop emotional regulation skills, and reach their full potential in a safe, nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom.
Promote emotional wellbeing and help students develop coping strategies and positive behaviour.
Implement behaviour management plans and work with students to improve engagement.
Assist in creating a structured and positive learning environment tailored to individual needs.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals.
Monitor and record pupil progress, contributing to reports and reviews.
Maintain safeguarding and health & safety standards at all times.
Requirements:
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
Understanding of challenging behaviour and trauma-informed practice.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent under pressure.
A team player with a flexible and positive attitude.
A relevant qualification (e.g. , CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is an advantage but not essential.
An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one (assistance can be provided).
