Are you a resilient leader ready to handle high-pressure incidents in real time?
Do you thrive in fast-paced, high-profile environments with exposure to senior decision-makers?
Would you like to play a pivotal role in national transport security and emergency response such as floods, terrorism and geopolitical tensions?
If so, then we would love for you to apply!
This role sits in DfT’s Operations Team which manages the Department’s response to civil contingency & security issues impacting the transport sector. The Operations Team sits within the Transport Security Operations Centre (TSOC).
You will be a core part of the Operations team within the wider division in the Department responsible for leading and co-ordinating whole-of-department response activity.
You will be required to take part in emergency responses dealing with high pressure situations that emerge suddenly. As this job responds to the unexpected, there will be times when you are required outside of normal work hours.
You will play a leading role in supporting the DfT response team and the wider Department to be operationally ready to deal with large scale incidents affecting the transport network. The post holder will provide critical support across all aspects of the division’s work, covering counter terrorism and civil contingencies.
Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills set out in the Civil Service Line Management Standards. We aim to empower line managers to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.
Responsibilities
Key accountabilities of the role include:
- Manage and maintaining your own portfolio of Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs); you will ensure DfT has effective contingency arrangements in place for a range of incidents, embedding a more agile and resilient response across the Department.
- Work with subject matter experts within DfT and its agencies to ensure DfT has effective operational crisis management procedures in place.
- Design and implement time-sensitive and effective solutions to unexpected developments.
- Horizon scanning for near term risks and anticipate potential operational impacts.
- Evaluate short term risks and communicate critical information to senior colleagues and ministers.
- Assist in major event planning (short and medium term).
- Represent the Department at cross-government meetings, acting as an advocate for DfT’s interests.
- Line management for Operations and Response Advisers and Watchkeepers.
- Form a core part of the Department’s out of hours on-call rota.
- Fill key roles within the Departmental Operations Centre during a response.
