£36,071 - £39,412 / £39,941 - £44,120

£19.77 - £21.60 / £21.89 - £24.18 per hour

The Safety and Resilience Officer is responsible in assisting in the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, clients, service users, members of the public, and others impacted by the Council’s activities. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and guidance to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.

The officer will provide expert advisory, training, and investigative services to all Council Services, fostering a culture of safety and resilience throughout the council. Additionally, the Safety and Resilience Officer will enhance the Council’s resilience by developing and implementing strategies that ensure continuity and recovery in the face of emergencies and disruptions. This includes identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities, creating comprehensive emergency response plans, conducting regular exercises and simulations, and promoting a resilient mindset among employees and stakeholders to ensure the Council can effectively respond to and recover from unforeseen events.

In this role, you'll work closely with a group of committed professionals to address challenges, implement effective solutions, and enhance overall welfare.

For appointment at Grade H:

Applicants must hold a relevant qualification at SCQF 6/7 (i.e. NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK), SVQ3, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, Advanced Higher, Scottish Baccalaureate, HNC, Certificate of Higher Education) or have a minimum of 3 years previous relevant experience. You will also be required to achieve NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Heath and Safety within 3 years of taking up post.

For appointment at or progression to Grade I:

You must hold a NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
