Summary

We are looking for a colleague who already has some experience in performing hand and wrist surgery, in addition to upper limb surgery and general Orthopaedics. Applicants will have ideally passed the FRCS and ideally be a member of the BSSH. It is not necessary to have completed a hand fellowship, but it would be advantage to have worked in Plastic Surgical Unit. It is essential to have completed at least 6 months working as a registrar with a Hand and Wrist Consultant and to be able to demonstrate a strong interest in developing a career in Hand and Wrist surgery. The appointee will work closely with the three Orthopaedic hand surgeons and three upper limb surgeons. They will also liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary Gloucestershire Hand service including 6 hand therapists and services provided by the 6 MSK Orthopaedic Practitioners. They will also work closely with two of our registrars attached to the hand team. The Orthopaedic Department has undergone significant changes in recent years. We are always striving to develop both our elective and emergency hand surgery in Gloucestershire and this presents an opportunity for continued improvement for our hand surgery service. Elective surgery is performed mainly in Cheltenham, Cirencester and Tewkesbury Hospitals. Trauma surgery is performed mainly in Gloucester. Cheltenham, Gloucester and Cirencester are equipped with mini-C arms, which you will be trained to use. The trauma service is busy we run 2-3 all day trauma lists 7 days a week. We have a significant amount of hand trauma and manage all injures locally except burns and those requiring microsurgery.
